The Beechwood Hotel

Welcome to the Beechwood Hotel, an exclusive country house hotel in the small market town of North Walsham close to the Norfolk coast. As of June 2019 we have been awarded 4 Stars from the AA, reflecting our excellence in Hospitality, Service, Cleanliness and Food.

Hugh and Emma Asher took over the Beechwood Hotel in September 2015.  Hugh Asher instilled in his staff his key principles: a warm and friendly welcome, excellence in customer service, and locally sourced Norfolk ingredients prepared to a consistent high standard.   Hugh sadly passed away on 18th May 2026 after a long illness.  His wife Emma and the rest of the team continue to offer the warm and friendly welcome that he was so well known for.

We aim for excellence in customer service, and have been continually ranked number 1 for customer service in Norfolk on Tripadvisor. Our restaurant has 2 AA rosettes reflecting our chefs’ high standards.

Facilities include free Wifi and flat screen TVs in all our rooms, as well as a Radio with CD and USB port and tea and coffee making facilities. Outside we have free parking for 20 cars, including an electric charging point for 2 cars, and at the back of the hotel there is a beautiful garden for you to enjoy.

From 1936 until the 1960s Agatha Christie stayed here many times as the guest of her friends whose private home it then was, often sitting in the summer house to write.

The Hotel, Restaurant and Rooms reflect the elegance of that period. Look out for some South African touches in our menu and wine list, inspired by Hugh’s native land.
